FRANCESCA ELLANA -- WHO IS SHE?
Francesca Ellana will be competing for the title of Miss District of Columbia USA 2008 on November 24, 2007. Francesca is pursuing her Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism at Howard University's School of Communication and is on the Academic Dean's List. She lives by example, inspiring young women through her many accomplishments as a positive role model through dancing, motivational speaking, and leadership. She believes becoming Miss District of Columbia USA, avenues would open to further reach the DC community.
Francesca's most rewarding challenge was re-establishing a Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) chapter. As SADD Chapter President she completed many constructive campaigns raising awareness on the use of tobacco, under-age drinking and drugs in hopes to deter fatal destructive decisions. She volunteers her time to mentor and tutor grade school students believing education and awareness will empower our communities. Great moments of volunteering are spent at the "Avon Walk for Breast Cancer","Walker-Whitman's AIDS Walk", and the"Help the Homeless Walk" where she encounters many supporters, volunteers, and survivors. Francesca reaches out and inspires the younger community when conducting Girl Empowerment Seminars and supporting the DC Police Department's "Stop the Violence" Campaigns. She is the founder and lead choreographer for the hip-hop dance group, FuZion Dancers. FuZion has performed at venues supporting voting registration, community events, and private functions. This Howard student is also currently a recipient of the Raymond L. Nixon Scholarship Foundation for her leadership, academics, and community service.
Francesca has made many accomplishments, overcome many obstacles, and with a loving spirit will continue to inspire others. This savvy, goal-oriented young women envisions herself in the entertainment industry as an actress/model and broadcaster. She also plans to be founder of an organization which empowers women by building a strong sense of self-esteem, character, and independence.
She values the emphasis of "being yourself". She believes and practices giving back to the community and "paying forward". But most of all she strongly believes in herself and her personal ability to achieve.
